We're only 2 1/2 hours from Cancun's international airport but, that short distance represents a vast difference in vacation attitude. Here, you'll find no discos, no tour buses, no shopping malls, and no mob scene on the beach.

We prefer to spend time strolling miles of wild beach while hunting seashells. Or, silently pondering the precarious flight of the Flamingo while Pelicans dive in pursuit of their daily meal. Our evenings are spent in quiet conversation amongst friends as the sun melts away into the Gulf of Mexico.

The little village of Holbox boasts nearly 1500 inhabitants, most of which are fishermen who have tremendous pride in their natural paradise. With our limited tourism, some have turned guide and delight in showing off the dolphins which live in the Yalahau lagoon or finding a school of dorado for their fishing clients.

• Holbox is home to over 150 species of birds. Of course, birdwatching is one of our more popular activities! ...especially the flamingos.
• The ocean here has a sandy bottom - great for swimming. And, beachcombers can find hundreds of fine shells along our wild coastline.
• Standard fishing trips, dolphin watching excursions and a short tour through the "river" which bisects Holbox island are available on request through various local guides.
• If you have the urge to go "off island" for a day, there's a small Mayan ruin near Chiquila...
